Eight teams of generally three students presented their arguments regarding the case of an asylum seeker who came over the Mediterranean Sea to a fictitious European country and his application was to be redistributed to a country different than the country he wanted to apply for asylum in. The students spent numerous hours by researching the relevant case law of the ECJ and the ECHR and even more by discussing the topic among each other. The oral hearings were presided by no one else than the President of the ECJ professor Koen Lenaerts. Most of the performances were high above the standard of many regular moot court competitions and the students deserved Mr. President’s high esteem.
After the afternoon pleadings, everyone gathered over a nice barbecue in the beautiful surroundings of the chalet and there were many possibilities to satisfy the hunger and thirst by the amazing food and good Czech beer and wine, which was prepared for us. Also, the hunger and thirst for knowledge was satisfied by professor Lenaerts, who was eager to discuss with students the whole evening.
