Ciarán Burke is Professor of International Law and Director of International Legal Studies at the Friedrich Schiller Universität, Jena. He is also Director of Research at the Irish Law Reform Commission and a legal consultant for a number of international organisations. He has advised national governments and the European Union on matters as diverse as digital privacy and surveillance, international migration and asylum, Brexit, police powers, and legal codification. He has previously worked at the University of Passau, the University of Kent, and the European University Institute in Florence.
