Richard Parrish holds the position of Jean Monnet Chair of EU Sports Law and Policy (2016-2019). Currently, he is leading a major EU funded project looking into the operation of football agents in Europe (2018-2019). Professor Parrish was a member of the European Commission’s High Level Group on Sports Diplomacy (2015-2016) and a member of the European Commission’s Group of Independent Sports Experts that advised the EU on sport priorities ahead of the adoption of the Communication on Sport in 2011. He was also Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Inquiry into Grassroots Sport and the European Union (2010/11). Professor Parrish has authored a number of influential reports for the European Parliament and the European Commission, including the main reports into nationality discrimination in Olympic sports and European football. He has also acted as expert adviser for the European Commission’s TAIEX programme with work having been undertaken in the Ukraine, Albania, Belarus and Turkey on the approximation of European laws relevant to sport. He is author of two monographs and three edited collections exploring the interface between sport and EU law. Professor Parrish is Honorary Chair of the Association for the Study of Sport & the European Union and he is an editorial board member on the International Sports Law Journal.
