CLS is operating in the style and tradition of British and American university societies. The main focus of the society is above all Common Law, European and Comparative law.
Common Law Society (abbreviated "CLS") is an association of students, alumni and academics at the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. It is a non-profit organization, founded in March 1998, based on the initiative of volunteers. CLS is operating in the style and tradition of British and American university societies. The main focus of the society is above all Common Law, European and Comparative law.
The purpose of the Common Law Society is to complement and enhance the time spent at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. The society endeavours to bring the community together through lectures beyond the frame of everyday courses, academic events and seminars. Secondly, we arrange social events that we believe unquestionably form a part of the life at university. Through events such as meetings, discussions, excursions to state institutions and law firms as well as to famous places of Czech history, CLS offers the possibility of encountering people with similar interests and an active approach towards the studies. Last but not least, through the involvement of the students interested in the current affairs, we contribute to the establishment of open and free civil society.
Common Law Society is an association open to all eventual applicants from future or current legal theoretics as well as professionals. The membership is not a subject to any restrictions and the purpose of the operation within its structures is mainly an endeavor of self-realisation of the members and creating a better environment at the Faculty of Law of Charles University.
